Brief Posting Description:

The District Manager oversees all functions of the assigned district's branches within New England to provide accep return on controllable assets while improving market share on a consistent and regular basis.

Detailed Description:

Responsible for key marketing areas, establishes district marketing direction, supplier selection, new product introduction, sales promotions, pricing policies, key customer contact, and national accounts.

Manages the coordination of purchasing within the district with emphasis on preferred suppliers.

Develops and maintain cooperative relationships consistent with good commercial policies with regard to selected suppliers.

Plans, develops and implements specific actions and programs in accordance with the management sales plan.

Develop, implement and adjust district sales plan designed to increase market penetration

Oversees Branch Managers in hiring, deploying and managing Outside Sales Representatives to provide coverage of total district geography/assigned market segments while assuring adequate potential for individual territory development.

Develops Outside Sales Representatives by providing sales technique and product training through personal example, coaching, and formal and informal training sessions.

Makes regular sales calls on customer managers and principals of key accounts to foster growth and ensure adequate coverage, penetration and customer service.

Conducts quarterly reviews with district and branch personnel to focus on performance against objectives and provide counseling, assistance and motivation to achieve objectives.

Develops team working relationships employees clearly defining each member's primary and secondary responsibilities, and relationship to others within district and branch.

Ensures adequate delegation of authority to Branch Managers and all subordinates to carry out responsibilities and tasks.

Establishes and controls pricing levels while implementing policies and programs to improve margins.

Guides Branch Managers, Branch Supervisors or Branch Operation Managers in the selection, hiring, development, promotion, demotion and/or dismissal of non-exempt employees.

Administer practices of equal employment opportunities.

Assist Financial Services in exercising policies as they pertain to the extension of credit, the collection of accounts receivable, the attainment of accep days outstanding, and the minimization of potential losses


Oversee inventory administration by District Operations Manager to ensure adequate stock

Ensures district and branches are taking an active role in negotiating lower costs and extended payment terms from our key suppliers.

Develops and implements a plan to provide premium customer service and to review performance against objectives regularly.

Identifies the market potential by industry and update annually.

Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities-

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

Understanding of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasion and interpersonal skills.

Strong computer and time-management skills.

Sales ability, financial aptitude, strong leadership and strong people skills.

Ability to demonstrate teamwork, leadership and flexibility.

Ability to travel up to 60% on a weekly basis.

Experience:

Branch management - 5 years required 10 years preferred.

Selling within the distribution industry- 3 years required 5 years preferred.

Full P & L responsibility- 5 years required 10 years preferred.

Product knowledge in the categories of Gear, Lighting and Automation - preferred.

Education:

High School Degree or equivalent required Bachelors' Degree preferred.

Candidate Must Have:
  • Full P & L management experience
  • Branch Management experience
  • Distribution Sales experience
  • Targeted sales growth within an assigned territory
  • Product knowledge in Gear, Lighting and Automation
